FOR THE OFFICE

I recently sold an agave triptych I created in 2006 to a therapist for her office. She felt these images would help create a sense of calm for her clients. I was delighted to revisit this work and know that it conveyed the feeling I had when I created it. I am reminded of Rachel Carson's words.

"In contemplating the exceeding beauty of this earth, I have found calmness and courage. ... There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature."

Created for the Conways two years ago, I'm looking forward to updating their family portrait this month. There's another grandson, Zachary, to include in the new portrait of Ann and Chris with all their grandchildren.

Smothered with Love

This birthday cupcake was wrapped in the love of her friends and family for her first year celebration. A delicious event, as sweet as the birthday girl herself, was finished off with this mini family portrait session.

A good time was had by all as we explored the backyard, played dress up with hats, went to the beach park for swinging and sliding... and created a photographic documentary along the way. A fabulous way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

My "Cucumbers" is currently hanging in the Mayor's Office as part of "Food," an exhibit celebrating the wealth of agricultural products produced in our county. Sponsored by the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative, the show will be available for viewing through December 2011.

It was a full afternoon of portraiture beginning with the 14 member family portrait and culminating in this one of the grandparents with their grandchildren ... with all combinations of those present in between.

The Moment

The event I photographed Wednesday evening was an anniversary celebration in an exquisite setting with a fistful of activities for the guests. The hostess had thought of everything. But it was this quiet moment before the the party started that captured my imagination.

Jenny & Alex are back in CA for a visit from the East Coast just in time to celebrate Nicolas' 1st birthday. I was so happy to meet and photograph the birthday boy, the Edwards clan and Nicolas' New York grandparents last weekend in celebration of this milestone.
